# Get Conversation by External ID

`GET /conversations/by-external-id/{externalId}`

## Request

- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Looks up a conversation by its external application ID (the ID from the source system that originally imported the conversation). Returns the Attention conversation UUID if found.

## Path parameters

- `externalId` string, required

## Response `200`

Conversation found

- ConversationByExternalIdResponse
  - `conversation_id` string: Attention conversation UUID corresponding to the external ID

## Other responses

- `401`: Authentication failed - valid API key required
- `404`: No conversation found for the given external ID
- `default`: Unexpected error occurred
