# Get database restriction state

`GET /databases/{id}/restriction-state`

## Request

- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP basic
  - OAuth 2
    - Authorization code: `https://auth.atlassian.com/authorize`
    - Token URL: `https://auth.atlassian.com/oauth/token` scopes: `read:database:confluence`

Returns the restriction state of a database.

**[Permissions](https://confluence.atlassian.com/x/_AozKw) required**:
Permission to view the database.

## Path parameters

- `id` integer, required

## Response `200`

Returned if the restriction state is successfully retrieved.

- RestrictionStateResponse: The direct restriction state of a content item. Inherited restrictions are not included.
  - `state` 'OPEN' | 'EDIT_RESTRICTED' | 'VIEW_RESTRICTED', required: The direct restriction state of a content item. Inherited restrictions are not represented by this REST enum. - `OPEN` – No direct restrictions. Effective access may still be restricted by a parent. - `EDIT_RESTRICTED` – Direct viewing is open but editing is restricted to explicitly granted users/groups. - `VIEW_RESTRICTED` – Direct viewing and editing are restricted to explicitly granted users/groups.
  - `createdAt` string, date-time: ISO-8601 timestamp of when the restriction was set. Absent when the state is `OPEN`.
  - `createdBy` string: Atlassian Account ID of the user who set the restriction. Absent when the state is `OPEN`.
  - `createdByAaid` string: Deprecated alias for `createdBy`. Use `createdBy` instead. Absent when the state is `OPEN`.

## Other responses

- `401`: Returned if the authentication credentials are incorrect or missing from the request.
- `404`: Returned if the content was not found or the calling user does not have permission to perform this operation.
