# Sade Sati periods

`POST /v1/astro/sade-sati`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.asterwise.com`
- URL: `https://api.asterwise.com/v1/astro/sade-sati`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Calculate all Sade Sati periods for a natal chart. Returns rising, peak, and setting phases for each period (first entry, final exit and every stay of Saturn in the sign, so retrograde re-entries are shown), current active status and phase from Saturn's sign on the check date, intensity score (0-100 scale, 40-90 while active), intensity label, and next upcoming period. Optionally check status for a specific date using check_date. Sade Sati is Saturn's 7.5-year transit over natal Moon sign and adjacent signs. Small Panoti (Dhaiya) covers Saturn in the 4th or 8th sign from natal Moon (~2.5 years each). Returns all past, current, and future Sade Sati cycles with phase descriptions.

## Request body

- SadeSatiRequest
  - `location` string, nullable: City name to resolve to lat/lon/tz automatically. Example: 'Mumbai' or 'New Delhi, India'. If provided, latitude, longitude and timezone are not required.
  - `name` string: Person name associated with the birth record
  - `date` string, required: Birth date in YYYY-MM-DD format
  - `time` string, nullable: Birth time in HH:MM 24-hour format. If omitted, sunrise chart is used as fallback.
  - `latitude` number, nullable: Latitude. Required if location not provided.
  - `longitude` number, nullable: Longitude. Required if location not provided.
  - `timezone` string, nullable: IANA timezone. Required if location not provided (unless utc_offset is given). For dates before the zone adopted a standard time, the birthplace's local mean time (longitude / 15 hours) is used.
  - `utc_offset` string, nullable: Optional explicit UTC offset of the birth time, as ±HH:MM or ±HH:MM:SS (e.g. '+04:51:31' for Bombay mean time). Overrides the offset `timezone` would give. Use it when the birth record states the offset, or for historical local times the IANA database cannot represent.
  - `ayanamsa` 'lahiri' | 'raman' | 'kp' | 'tropical': Sidereal ayanamsa mode used in calculations
  - `check_date` string, nullable: Date to check Sade Sati status. Defaults to today. Format: YYYY-MM-DD

## Response `200`

Sade Sati status, phases, timing, and intensity

- ApiResponseSadeSatiResponse
  - `success` boolean: True if the request succeeded
  - `message` string: Human-readable status message
  - `data` SadeSatiResponse, required
    - `birth_time_provided` boolean: True when a birth time was supplied. False when it was not: house, Ascendant and Moon-dependent results then carry the accuracy limits of an unknown birth time.
    - `natal_moon_sign` string, required
    - `natal_moon_sign_index` integer, required
    - `sade_sati_signs` object, required
    - `is_currently_active` boolean, nullable: Saturn is in the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from the natal Moon on the check date.
    - `current_phase` string, nullable: rising, peak or setting: the phase of Saturn's sign on the check date.
    - `current_phase_description` string, nullable
    - `intensity_score` integer, nullable: 0-100 scale: rising 40 to 80, peak 70 to 90 (highest mid-phase), setting 80 to 40, by progress through the phase; 0 when not active.
    - `intensity_label` string, nullable: high (70+), moderate (40-69) or low.
    - `next_sade_sati` object, nullable: When not active: the next date Saturn enters one of the three signs, with its phase (rising for a new cycle; the resumed phase after a retrograde gap) and years away.
    - `all_periods` SadeSatiPeriod[], nullable: Every Sade Sati cycle that begins between 10 years before birth and 50 years after the check date, each to its final exit from the 2nd sign (a cycle under way at the start of that range is left out).
      - `sade_sati_number` integer, required
      - `overall_start` string, required: First entry into the 12th sign from the Moon.
      - `overall_end` string, required: Final exit from the 2nd sign from the Moon.
      - `duration_years` number, required
      - `is_interrupted` boolean, nullable: True when Saturn stepped out of the three signs for a while (a retrograde loop at the start or end); Sade Sati is not active during that gap.
      - `phases` object, required: rising (12th from Moon), peak (Moon sign), setting (2nd from Moon).
    - `small_panoti` SmallPanotiPeriod[]: Every Small Panoti in the same range, each to Saturn's final exit from the sign.
      - `panoti_number` integer, required
      - `sign_index` integer, required
      - `sign` string, required
      - `position_from_moon` integer, required
      - `start` string, required: Saturn's first entry into the sign.
      - `end` string, required: Saturn's final exit from the sign, after any retrograde return.
      - `is_currently_active` boolean, required: Saturn is in this sign on the check date.
      - `duration_years` number, required
      - `segments` SaturnStay[]: Every stay of Saturn in the sign; more than one when it retrogrades out and back in.
        - `start` string, required: Date Saturn entered the sign (YYYY-MM-DD, UTC).
        - `end` string, required: Date Saturn left the sign (YYYY-MM-DD, UTC).
      - `is_interrupted` boolean, nullable: True when Saturn left the sign and came back (more than one segment).
    - `is_small_panoti_active` boolean, nullable
    - `current_small_panoti_position` integer, nullable: 4 or 8 when Small Panoti is active (natal Moon reference)
    - `mitigated_by_own_sign` boolean, nullable
    - `mitigated_by_exaltation` boolean, nullable
