THE ANDEAN-AMAZONIC NEW YEAR (Willkakuti — 'the return of the sun'): every 21 June, at the southern winter solstice, tens of thousands gather before dawn at TIWANAKU and two hundred sacred sites to receive the first rays through the Gate of the Sun with open palms.
