# Start a verification

`POST /v1/messaging/accounts/{accountId}/gmb-verifications`

## Request

Starts a verification for the location. This is a mutating action: depending on `method`, Google mails a postcard, places a call, or sends an SMS/email to the business. Submit the resulting code with POST /gmb-verifications/{verificationId}/complete. Use POST /gmb-verifications/options first to discover which methods are eligible.

**Billing:** Request; paid actions are priced in credits (see GET /v1/messaging/prices) · **Rate limit:** 60/min

- `accountId` string, required: The Zernio account ID (from /v1/accounts)

- `locationId` string: Override which location to target. If omitted, uses the account's selected location.

  - `context` object: ServiceBusinessContext (e.g. service address). Required for service-area businesses.
  - `phoneNumber` string: For PHONE_CALL / SMS.
  - `emailAddress` string: For EMAIL.
  - `languageCode` string
  - `mailerContact` object: For ADDRESS (postcard) verification.
