# Update artifact version metadata

`PUT /groups/{groupId}/artifacts/{artifactId}/versions/{versionExpression}`

## Request

- The document declares no server URL.
- Auth: none declared

Updates the user-editable portion of the artifact version's metadata.  Only some of 
the metadata fields are editable by the user.  For example, `description` is editable, 
but `createdOn` is not.

This operation can fail for the following reasons:

* No artifact with this `artifactId` exists (HTTP error `404`)
* No version with this `version` exists (HTTP error `404`)
* A server error occurred (HTTP error `500`)

## Request body

- EditableVersionMetaData
  - `name` string
  - `description` string
  - `labels` Labels: User-defined name-value pairs. Name and value must be strings.

## Response `204`

The artifact version's metadata was successfully updated.

## Other responses

- `400`: Common response for all operations that can return a `400` error.
- `401`: Common response for all operations that can return a `401` error indicating authentication is required.
- `403`: Common response for all operations that can return a `403` error indicating the user is authenticated but not authorized.
- `404`: Common response for all operations that can return a `404` error.
- `500`: Common response for all operations that can fail with an unexpected server error.
