# Identify an animal in a photo.

`POST /recognitions`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://animalchecklist.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://animalchecklist.com/api/v1/recognitions`
- Auth: API key in cookie `ac_session`

Upload a JPEG without photo metadata from this site. The result is a suggestion. Each signed-in account can start 20 jobs per day, subject to IP and shared limits.

## Query parameters

- `lang` 'en' | 'de' | 'es' | 'fr' | 'it' | 'nl' | 'pt' | 'pl': Display language of `name`, category labels and the summary. Falls back to `en`.

- `X-Account-Id` string, uuid, required

## Response `202`

Recognition started. Poll the returned job id.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid input.
- `401`: Sign-in required.
- `403`: A same-origin request is required.
- `404`: Not found.
- `409`: Account changed in another tab.
- `413`: Image too large.
- `429`: Rate limited.
- `500`: Unexpected error.
- `503`: Recognition unavailable.
