# Update Task Metadata (Legacy)

`PUT /v1/task/{taskId}`

Updates task metadata (name and description). This does not affect the task code or versions.

If you are using the new Task Builder, see the Tasks V2 endpoints in this API reference.

## Path parameters

- `taskId` string, uuid, required

## Request body

- UpdateTaskMetadataRequest
  - `name` string — Task name (letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores only)
  - `description` string — Optional description of the task

## Response `200`

Task metadata updated successfully

  - `data` TaskMetadata
    - `id` string, uuid, required — Unique identifier for the task
    - `name` string, required — Task name
    - `teamId` string, uuid, required — Team identifier that owns this task
    - `description` string — Optional description of the task
    - `latest` string, required — Latest version identifier
    - `deleted` boolean, required — Whether the task is soft deleted
    - `createdAt` string, date-time, required — Task creation timestamp
    - `updatedAt` string, date-time, required — Task last update timestamp

## Other responses

- `404` — Task not found
- `409` — Task name already exists
- `500` — Failed to update task
