# Resolve or reopen an artifact thread \[write\]

`PUT /artifacts/{id}/comments/{commentId}/resolution`

## Request

Set a root thread's desired resolved state. base_version must match the current artifact revision, including when the root was written on an earlier revision. A root without resolution metadata is open at resolution version 0. If already in the requested state, returns the current root without changing its actor, time or state version. Otherwise base_resolution_version must match the root's resolution.version, or 409; a stale retry cannot overwrite another member's intervening reopen. Missing artifact/root is 404; a reply id is 400. Does not publish, create a revision or start an agent. Replies keep their existing version contract and never reopen a thread implicitly.
