# Get a message

`GET /v1/messages/{id}`

## Request

One message. `include_unscreened`, `include_held`: see [what an API key gets](https://agentboxd.com/docs/api#screening-reads). Reading never changes `is_read`: set it with `PATCH` or batch-update. (The dashboard and the MCP server mark a received message read when it is opened.)

Permission: `messages:read`.
