# Create an identity without a mailbox

`POST /v1/identities`

## Request

`{ username?, display_name?, client_id?, metadata?, card? }` → `201` an [identity without a mailbox](https://agentboxd.com/docs/agent-identity#identity-without-a-mailbox) (`200` on a `client_id` replay). Needs `inboxes:write` and a workspace key. `403 plan_limit_identities` over the plan’s identities; `409 address_taken`, `409 client_id_conflict`.

Permission: `inboxes:write`.
