# Request domain deletion

`POST /api/v1/domains/deletion-request`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.aerosend.io`
- URL: `https://api.aerosend.io/api/v1/domains/deletion-request`
- Auth: API key in header `X-API-Key`

Submits a deletion request for one or more domains for the authenticated client. **Domains are not deleted.**

## Deletion Rules
- Domains that are not `pending` (typically `active`) are included in the request
- The Aerosend team handles those domains
- Does **not** change domain status or free slots
- To delete **pending** domains with no active mailboxes, use `DELETE /api/v1/domains`

## Behavior
- Validates that each name belongs to the authenticated client
- Returns which names were submitted and which were not found on the account

## Request body

- DomainDeletionRequest: Deletion request for one or more domains. Does not delete them.
  - `domains` string[], required: Domain names to request deletion for

## Response `200`

Deletion request submitted

- DomainDeletionRequestApiResponse
  - `success` boolean: Success flag
  - `data` DomainDeletionRequestResponse: Result of submitting a domain deletion request. Domains are not deleted.
    - `requested_count` integer: Number of account domains included in the request
    - `requested_domains` RequestedDomain[]: Account domains included in the request
      - `domain` string: Domain name
      - `status` string: Current domain status
    - `not_found_domains` string[]: Names that were not found on this account or were invalid
    - `message` string: Confirmation that the team was notified and domains were not deleted
  - `timestamp` string: Response timestamp

## Other responses

- `400`: No matching domains on this account, or the domain list is empty
- `401`: Unauthorized - Invalid or expired API key
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded
