# Execute an intent

`POST /v1/agents/{agent_id}/execute`

## Request body

- ExecuteRequest
  - `binding` string, required: Binding name or ID to execute against
  - `intent_type` string, required: Type of execution intent (e.g. http_request, graphql_query)
  - `execution_mode` 'vault' | 'tee': Where execution runs (vault = server-side, tee = Shroud TEE)
  - `params` object, required: Intent-specific parameters
  - `dry_run` boolean: When true, validate guardrails and approval policy without executing or persisting side effects.

  - `execution_surface` 'vault' | 'tee': Where the intent actually ran. Reported truthfully — never claims TEE when it ran in the Vault.

## Other responses

- `202`: Execution requires human approval before running
- `400`: Invalid request
- `403`: Guardrail violation or permission denied. Note on resuming an approved execution: there is no request field for it. A client cannot name the approval to resume under. Between 2026-10-11 and 2026-10-12 a resume_after_approval_id was accepted and verified against an approved, agent-bound, unused approval; verifying it bound the approval but not the request body the approval was granted for, so the field was removed from the wire entirely. Approved executions resume server-side from the stored approval payload, so the body that runs is the body a human saw.
- `413`: Request params exceed binding max_request_bytes
- `429`: Binding or agent execution rate limit exceeded
